Apple to Use Low Power LTPO Display Technology for Two 2021 iPhone Models [Report]

Apple is planning to use low power LTPO display technology for two iPhone models planned for next year, reports ETNews. This could help extend battery life over the current 5G iPhone 12 models which use LTPS display technology.

Apple is expected to use LTPO technology for the two iPhone models out of the four it will be planning for next year. Samsung Display, which also supplies OLED panels to Apple, is expected to transfer some parts of its A3 line at Asan, South Korea, for its iPhone supply. A3 has a monthly production capacity of 105,000 substrates. Samsung Display has already supplied LPTO panels to Samsung Electronics for the Galaxy Note20 Ultra this year.

The site also notes that LG is planning to expand production of OLED panels for Apple. The company will reportedly put in low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LPTO) thin-film transistors (TFT) equipment that can add 25,000 substrates per month to its production lines by next year.

Apple Store Goes Down Ahead of Today's Special Event, Expected Debut of Apple Silicon Macs

The online Apple Store is down ahead of today special event at which the company is expected to unveil new MacBooks with custom Apple Silicon.

Apple announced the transition from Intel to its own custom ARM-based processors earlier this year:

Apple is designing a family of SoCs for the Mac. This will give the Mac industry-leading performance per watt and higher performance GPUs — enabling app developers to write even more powerful pro apps and high-end games. And access to technologies such as the Neural Engine will make the Mac an amazing platform for developers to use machine learning. This will also create a common architecture across all Apple products, making it far easier for developers to write and optimize software for the entire Apple ecosystem.

Live Blog of Apple's November 2020 Special Event

We will be providing coverage of Apple's upcoming 'One More Thing' special event beginning November 10, 2020 at 10:00am PT / 1:00pm ET.

Apple is widely expected to unveil three new MacBooks at the event that feature custom Apple Silicon. However, we don't expect a major design change this year.

Additionally, Apple could use the event to unveil its long rumored AirTag tracker. It's likely that AirTag will make use of the ultra-wideband chip in newer devices for precise location tracking. Earlier today, an image leaked that purportedly shows a keychain accessory that could be used to hold the tracker.

Alleged AirTag Keychain Accessory Leaked [Images]

A photo of a keychain accessory for the rumored Apple AirTag tracker has purportedly surfaced online.

The image appears to match those found in Apple's patent for a 'FASTENER WITH A CONSTRAINED RETENTION RING', notes @choco_bit.

Potentially AirTag carrying accessory in Saddle Brown. Looks a lot like this previously reported patent, but take it with a bit of salt though since something similar is easily reproducible in China.

Photographer Austin Mann Reviews the iPhone 12 Pro Max Camera [Video]

Photographer Austin Mann has posted his review of the new 5G iPhone 12 Pro Max camera ahead of the smartphone's release on Friday, November 13.

In case you missed it, I posted my iPhone 12 Pro review from Glacier National Park a few weeks ago and we found significant camera improvements, driven mainly by major software upgrades. Be sure to check it out as most of my focus today will be on the major hardware upgrades of the iPhone 12 Pro Max, notably the bigger sensor, longer telephoto lens, and a new sensor-shift stabilization technology.

Checkra1n Jailbreak Updated With Support for iOS 14.2

The checkra1n jailbreak has been updated with support for iOS 14.2. The release includes official support for A10/A10X devices and limited support for A11 devices (iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X).

Use This Trick to Check if Apple Has Shipped Your 5G iPhone 12 Pro Max or iPhone 12 Mini

The initial batch of 5G iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 12 mini orders have begun shipping out of China. Apple is primarily using UPS to deliver packages.

While most customers have yet to receive now shipping emails from Apple or have their order status changed to "shipped," users who pre-ordered with Apple can use a trick to find out if UPS has shipped their device. Please remember that this trick only works for orders from Apple.com!

Simply fill out the Track by Reference form on UPS.com, and use the phone number associated with your order as the reference number. If that phone number does not work, keep trying any phone number that could be associated with your wireless account or the number you used to upgrade. Sometimes it could be the phone number attached your Apple ID, or your billing address phone number. We used our 10 digit phone number with no spaces and no hyphens or brackets.

Apple has launched a new 'iPhone 12 Studio' experience that lets users mix and match colors, cases, and wallets before purchasing a new 5G iPhone 12/Pro/Max/mini.

The site is available on phone or tablet by visiting experience.apple/iphone.

You can select your model, color, case, and wallet then download an exploded view for sharing or place an order.

iMac 2021 Concept Features Edge-to-Edge Display [Images]

Check out this new iMac 2021 concept from svetapple that features an edge-to-edge display and 'A14T' processor. The design was inspired by the new iPad Pro.

The diagonals of the displays should undergo a fundamental change. Screens are likely to increase from current 21.5-inch to 24-inch and from 27-inch to 32-inch. The smaller model can provide 4/5K resolution and the larger 6K (just like the Pro Display XDR). The design of the front will be elegant and the leaked information speaks of similarities with the iPad Pro 2018/2020. We expect a fine and decent rounding in the corners and thin, approx. 5 mm frames along the edges.
