OG Motorola Moto X about to undergo soak test now (maybe for Android 5.0?)

While the second generation Motorola Moto X has received an update to Android 5.0, there was a road block preventing the original generation model from getting the same update. Last month, Motorola revealed that the Qualcomm chip inside the OG Moto X was behind the delay. While the second-gen version of the phone features the quad-core Snapdragon 801 CPU, the older model is powered by a dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor.

But the good news is that Motorola has apparently solved the issue that prevented the update from taking place. A Reddit poster using the handle Monkey_tennis has received an invitation from Motorola to take part in a soak test for the OG Motorola Moto X. As we've explained previously, to take part in a soak test, you need to be a member of the Motorola Feedback Network. This soak test is for those in the states who own this particular model.

With the soak test, a limited number of handsets are seeded with a new OS build. In this case, we don't think that we'd be off base to say that this test will be for Android 5.0. The number of phones involved is kept low so that Motorola can have a better handle on the testing.

If everything works out with the soak test, it won't be long before those in the U.S. with the OG Motorola Moto X are loading Android 5.0 on to their phone.
