Stanford Medicine Releases First Responder COVID-19 App With Support From Apple

Standford Medicine has released a new 'First Responder COVID-19 Guide' app. Built with the support of Apple, the app lets first responders screen their symptoms and, if needed, schedule a testing.

The goal is to ensure that first responders can efficiently access needed medical care while working under the safest possible conditions during the coronavirus outbreak. In the future, Stanford hopes to expand high-priority testing to frontline essential service workers, such as grocery store clerks and public service personnel, and to help first responders in other counties connect to one of Stanford Medicine’s seven outpatient testing facilities across the Bay Area.

“Our researchers were among the first in the nation to develop and deploy our own COVID-19 test, a rapid response that has equipped Stanford Medicine with a crucial tool for protecting and caring for patients during this pandemic,” said Robert Harrington, MD, professor and chair of medicine. “We are pleased to have the support from Apple to further bolster our shared community by offering testing and a new app. We want to reinforce our support for frontline workers whose tireless efforts benefit us all during this challenging time.”

Apple to Hold Company-Wide Virtual Meeting Later This Month

Apple is planning to hold a company-wide virtual meeting later this month where CEO Tim Cook and other executives will answer employee questions, reports Bloomberg.

The company sent a note to employees advising them of the plan on Wednesday in the U.S., which Bloomberg News has reviewed. It asked that questions be submitted by end of day on Saturday and also encouraged workers to share their experiences of working through the disruption to daily life that the Covid-19 pandemic has brought about. The specific date of the meeting has not yet been disclosed.

Apple has been working hard to transition to the new work-from-home reality. In particular, Apple is focused on making sure that parents have the flexibility to be able to take care of their kids while working.
