iPhone 12 May Support Short Range 802.11ay Wi-Fi [Report]



A new report from Macotakara claims Apple's next generation iPhone will reportedly feature support for the 802.11ay short range Wi-Fi standard.

According to the reliable source of information for iPhone 12 for the next term, there will be possibility to support IEEE 802.11ay which is near field communication Wi-Fi standard. Apple will be improve the data transfer speed between devices indoor mainly as a Gigabit WiFi technology.

802.11ay uses the 60GHz spectrum which offers multigigabit speeds and much lower latency. Unfortunately, it struggles to penetrate objects and so is limited to short range use. Apple could potentially use it for fast AirDrop transfers between devices.
